The president’s removal of Noem as DHS secretary is not enough for the opposition.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune called on his colleagues in the upper chamber of Congress to pass funding legislation for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), over which the Senate minority is withholding appropriations, has continued funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill from last summer.
Leader Thune said, “It’s been three weeks and counting on [the] second shutdown this fiscal year alone. Tens of thousands of DHS employees are going without pay, and critical DHS priorities are going unfunded.”
Despite President Trump removing Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security last week, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has refused to advance funding unless further policy reforms are made to federal immigration enforcement.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump as he sets his administration’s legislation and policy priorities.
- For party leaders in the House and Senate as they deliberate immigration policy and negotiate DHS funding.
- For DHS, TSA, USCG, FEMA, and other federal employees who are working without pay under the partial shutdown.
